Swearing-in ceremony of the Conte Cabinet at Palazzo Chigi

After the swearing-in of the new government at the Quirinale in the presence of the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, the traditional ceremony of the handover between outgoing Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and the new Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte took place at Palazzo Chigi.
At the end of the ceremony the Cabinet had its first meeting.

The ceremony

The new Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, accompanied by the Military Advisor, inspected the guard of honour lined up in the courtyard of Palazzo Chigi.
After the greetings by the Secretary General of the Prime Minister’s Office, he was accompanied up the Staircase of Honour, to the Hall of the Galleons, where he was welcomed by outgoing President Paolo Gentiloni, and together they walked to the Prime Minister’s Office for the handover.
At the end of the reserved meeting between the two Prime Ministers, the outgoing Undersecretary of the outgoing Prime Minister’s Office, Maria Elena Boschi, and the newly appointed Undersecretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, Giancarlo Giorgetti, entered the Prime Minister’s office.
Prime Minister Conte, Prime Minister Gentiloni and their respective Undersecretaries of State went to the Hall of the Galleons where the symbolic ceremony of the handover of the bell of the Cabinet took place.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte returned to the Office, while the outgoing Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, through the Staircase of Honour, arrived in the courtyard accompanied by the Head of the Office of State Ceremony and Honours and by the Military Advisor. After receiving military honors from the Honour Guard, Prime Minister Gentiloni leaves Palazzo Chigi.
