Dalla Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri:
16 Novembre 2018
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte received the visit of the President of the State of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, at Palazzo Chigi. The visit falls on the 70th anniversary of the birth of the State of Israel and of the 70th anniversary of Italy’s recognition thereof one year later. The Prime Minister will celebrate the anniversary with a tribute of honour from Italian institutions to underscore the strong friendship between the two States. During the meeting, Conte and Rivlin addressed topics of regional interest in the context of the ongoing changes in the area of the Mediterranean and of the Middle East. Prime Minister Conte expressed concern over the risk of the escalating violence recorded in the last few days in Gaza and expressed the wish for a lasting ceasefire that could enable all the parties to mitigate the humanitarian crisis there. Conte and Rivlin also expressed the will to strengthen the cooperation between Italy and Israel in the fight against terrorism. They also agreed on the need for greater industrial cooperation in technology-intensive sectors such as cybersecurity, space and artificial intelligence.
